The line at Bolton is set to close from the 12th August as a major engineering program gets underway to improve services in the North West.
From 12th August until 27th August there will be no services between Wigan/Preston and Manchester via Bolton due to a major engineering program underway to deliver better and faster trains across the North West.
During the engineering works services will be replaced by buses, with only the Clitheroe line running into Bolton where it will terminate. The work been undertaken is to bring a new platform into use, Platform 5, and develop the electrification work more to get ready for the proposed launch of electric services from the December timetable change.
All Bolton services will be replaced by bus with some services rerouted via Wigan North Western via either the Chat Moss line, some on Mondays to Fridays will be diverted via the Atherton line, but this will also be closed on some weekends during the works to allow for the electrification to be done around Salford Crescent.
The map below from Network Rail and North shows service patterns during the engineering works.
